The most frequently asked questions about our audioguide are answered below. For any further queries, please contact us.
Try out our multimedia demo Buy the best guide to Rome’sCan I listen to tracks from the audioguide on my own MP3 player?
Yes, the DVD that we supply contains 92 files in MP3 format, which can be copied onto any player.
On what type of players do they work?
On MP3 and MP4 players, iPod, PDAs, mobile phones, and in general on any device that recognizes MP3 format.
How much memory space does the audioguide take-up?
The 92 files take up just under 1 GB, so they fit easily on players with a 1 GB capacity or more.
What if I have problems copying the files onto my player?
Copying the files onto a player is simple: all you need is a computer. Just select all the files on the DVD drive and drag and drop them into the directory for the player. If you need more basic instructions, ask someone more familiar with computers to help you.
How many tracks should I copy to my player?
We recommend that you copy all the files (not just a selection), so that they are stored on the player with the same numbers as in the printed guide book. This will make them easier to handle.
In what languages is the audioguide available?
For the moment in Spanish and English.
If there are two of us, should we take two players?
We recommend using one player with two audio outlets, or an adapter to unable two pairs of earphones to be connected to the same outlet. You can then both hear the explanations at the same time. However, you can also use two players or, as a last resort, one earphone each.
Does it work for groups? How many people can use the audioguide at the same time?
The audioguide is best used by no more than two people at the same time, because the printed guide-book is needed to follow the explanations. For more people, having just one guide-book may prove awkward. We offer the chance to buy additional printed guide-books at €10 each.
Can I buy just the printed guide-book without the DVD?
No, additional printed guide-books are available only on ordering the audioguide with the DVD.
How long does delivery take?
Via links on the Home Page and in the Store section you can access a PDF file that sets out the terms and conditions for shipping, delivery times and rates. Orders are dispatched every morning.
I found out about the audio-guide too late for my trip: there is not time for it to be delivered before I leave. Can I collect it in Rome?
Yes, there are two ways of receiving the audio-guide in Rome: you can collect it at Piazza Navona (Libreria Española), or we can deliver it to your hotel and leave it under your name at Reception for you to pick up on arrival.
You will need an empty mp3/mp4 player and access to a computer to download the guide onto it. If your hotel cannot provide this service, check out the PDF file below for details of public Internet access points in the centre of Rome.
What can I do if I cannot complete my order on-line?
Write to us at the e-mail address shown in the Contact section of the website.
Is the audioguide complicated to use?
The Tutta Roma audioguide is intuitive and easy to use. Each tourist attraction is identified by a number. Just select the corresponding number on your MP3 player and press Play. From then on the guide itself will give you all the instructions that you need, in a clear, simple manner.
Do I have to follow preset itineraries?
Not at all. You decide at all times what sights you wish to see and when.
Sometimes it is hard to decide what sights to visit. Can the audioguide help me?
The printed guidebook includes recommendations depending on the length of your stay in Rome, and a full map of the city with the main sights highlighted. Tutta Roma also contains 12 additional tracks which outline the main points of interest of each tourist area. You can hear these 12 tracks in full in the PREPARING YOUR TRIP section of this website.
Does the guide cover all the main attractions?
Tutta Roma provides detailed descriptions of more than 60 tourist attractions, including all the main sights and many others. Brief descriptions of even more sights can be found in the general information tracks such as those on the city's squares, and in the area tracks. Some attractions, such as the Catacombs, the Domus Aurea and the Vatican necropolis are not included, because they can only be visited on guided tours. Museums are not included because their exhibits and itineraries are changed frequently.
Why are there so many history and biography tracks?
Because Rome is a unique tourist destination that sums up the whole of Western culture in a manner that few places can match. Some knowledge of the city's past and of the lives of its leading figures is all but essential if you are to make the most of your visit to its tourist attractions. These tracks can also be listened to as a taster before you start your trip, or to while away the time while you are queuing, travelling from one attraction to another or waiting to be served.
I am concerned that the audioguide may be too technical in its language, or that the content may be difficult to understand.
The guide has been designed from an educational viewpoint. We want you to understand the sites that you are seeing, to know why they were built, and what secrets are enshrined in their architecture and their history. All the explanations are straight forward and entertaining, and are intended to make your visit to Rome a marvellous experience.
